BLIND RACE

The blind race was to begin and the blind man was ready on the touchline, the starting point of the race, waiting for his companion, his race partner, who was far away in another part of the city writing his exams, he was a final year student in the high school and he was not around in this stadium yet.

The blind man was already weeping that he would not be able to run in this crucial race that will determine his going to the next level of his athletic career.

The crowd was thick and expectant, it was a race of the decade; a race of a lifetime. Many had already been screened off at the preliminary stages of this same competition.

The first two that crosses this finish line today would be the winners that will represent the country in Algeria for the next level of the competition. The best was to be chosen finally today.

Will the prospective winner and the best from several primary rounds and stages of the games be left alone today without his human- prop of support towards getting this trophy? He has been used to running with this partner and now he was no where to be found; who will go with him? Should he choose a stranger unprepared? But this is not a race for an impromptu preparation. It's beyond a quick-fix; there were eight running teams left. These seven teams of two partners in each pair were great runners. They have all made it to the national level from the states.

They have prepared for this great race! No runner, nobody could match their speed in all their previous zonal race competitions and that was why they were able to make it here toady. Just choosing the wrong race partner here today out of the blues will make a mess of his chances of winning. He sobs. Because nobody knows the strategies of winning with which he and his partner usually run.

That guy might not be able to make to this race; the time has come, the call has been made for them to file out in ranks on the starting point of the race. This is a crucial race and it cannot be postponed for anybody's sake. The other seven pair athletes were already set, focused and ready for the whistle or the gun shot of the race official. They were warming up and stretching out themselves in hopes of winning. Although he could not see; he could hear their activities and feel their paces all around him. Just then his partner showed up suddenly; he was running to the track and people who knew them together as race-partners were hailing, the call of the nick name; so he was excited to hear the
