Downloadable Game Review: Airport Mania

"Pilot, you are clear for landing". Adults and children will have a thrilling time as they take control of their very own airport. Report to the Airport Academy, receive a diploma and take control of the friendly skies in this fast paced game of multi-tasking.

As the air-traffic controller, you are responsible for landing planes, loading and unloading passengers, refueling and maintenance of the airplanes. When a plane flies over, you will direct the plane as to which strip to land and then send the airplane to a hanger to unload passengers. While some airplanes automatically reload with passengers, some will need to be refueled or go to the shop for repairs. After the plane has finished reloading with passengers, it will then need to be directed to a strip to take back off into the wild blue yonder.

Seem simple enough? Now throw in several airplanes flying around waiting to land that are different colors. To make extra money, the air-traffic controller needs to direct the airplanes to the proper colored hanger. If your airplane is blue, send it to the blue hanger for some extra bucks. But wait, that hanger already has a blue plane. You have a couple of choices then. Either send the airplane to a different colored hanger, which will be worth less money, or park it in a waiting spot until the blue hanger becomes empty. But don't keep those planes waiting; they can get a bit testy when they are ignored for too long.

That hard earned cash can be used towards some spiffy new upgrades for your airport. By upgrading to bigger hangers, you will be able to load and unload passengers more efficiently. You can buy extra waiting spots for when the airport is busier than normal and purchase a jazzy new paint sprayer. The paint sprayer will come in handy when you need your airplane to be a different color to match an empty hanger.

The planes also upgrade as the game progresses and you become a more experienced air-traffic controller. But what are those helicopters flying overhead? Click on them as many times as possible before it flies away and watch money fall. Fantastic! More cha-ching to add some bling to your already expanding airport.

I rate Airport Mania a 4 out of 5. The game loaded quickly, I experienced no glitches and even though the graphics were child-like, I did enjoy playing the game. The background music was typical for this type of game and there were sounds for the planes during some of their tasks. The music and sounds were not distracting to me as I was too busy focusing on the keeping the airplanes moving along. The entire game offers 8 different airports with 84 levels that become more difficult as you progress.

This game will keep a person (or older child) occupied and busy. The whole concept is to complete a wide range of tasks and keeping your cool under pressure. This may be difficult if you get frustrated easily under stress. The full version can be purchased for $19.99 or a one-hour trial version is available for free at yahoo games.
