There was a time in my life when luck wasn't exactly on my side. I had been going through tough times dealing with my living situation and was ready for a change. I then decided, against my will, that it was best for me to move back to my hometown, live with my dad, and try to start a new beginning. I wasn't particularly happy about the situation, but things were looking up! Then, all of the sudden I get news that my beloved family dog, Sparky, had died of old age. In utter devastation, I moved back into my old home, missing old Sparky and feeling a huge void in my heart.
As I was walking around the back yard, taking in the crisp summer air, I noticed a new addition. There was a small little area full of dirt, nothing more. I knew what it was a garden of some sort, but I wasn't sure what was to be! My father, the wonderful man he is, took me by the hand and showed me an array of seeds, and pictures of several beautiful flowers. He told me that he wanted to bring something positive into our lives. It was my job to plant the seeds and water when needed. I was skeptical, but excited for the challenge. Every day I watered those seeds, slowly watching the tiny sprouts grow. Every little growth filled me more full of life. The day I saw my first begonia in full bloom with its bright white center and blood red outlining, I could've cried! What a beautiful life I helped create! Over the next few days there were canary yellow ones with gold edges, peaches, and bright oranges. The most beautiful flowers I had ever seen and I was a huge part!
My gardening experience helped me not to mourn over a life lost, but celebrate a life lived with the growth of so many others! Feelings of pure happiness and pride are the rewards for a job well done! To this day, gardening and watching that tiny sprout grow into something so beautiful, turns on the brightest and most positive feelings deep in my soul!
