How to choose what to include in your website

With so many websites to review, it is not hard to find items to include. Several things to choose from include "About Us", "Contact Us", "FAQ", "Forums", "Site Map", "Affiliate information", "Site Specific", "Account Info" and "Main Page". Reviewing of websites with similar products/information/or functions should get you well on the way of choosing your main topics for your menu.

"About Us" - This option can include things like company background, website focus, and/or news articles. Let users know more about who you are and why you do what you do. Keep your comments focused and brief to keep customers interested and satisfied. Direct them to the "Contact Us" section for more in depth questioning and other information.

"Contact Us" - Several ways for customers to contact you include email, telephone, mail, chat, and face to face. You can create forms for customers to fill out to request information or simply list a directory of emails organized by employee or topic. Telephone numbers can lead to an AVR (Automatic Voice Response System), voice mail, or perhaps a live employee. Snail mail still has its place so you probably want to list your physical address. Chat can be automated, live or some combination of the two. Finally, you may have a physical location to list where customers can meet you face to face.

"FAQ" - As you probably already know, FAQ stands for frequently asked questions. It is good to build a list to save time as well as lead to less frustration for the customer. Be sure and direct customers to the "Contact Us" section for answers not listed or create a form that emails you with questions or suggestions.

"Forums" - I've seen this listed as mail lists or communities. This option is simply to let users communicate with other users or employees to answer questions and build up quality customer service. Usually you pick from a list of different topics or employees. This can create quite a buzz about your website and/or its products.

"Site Map" - This is simply a picture of the different topics and options on your website so a user can quickly and easily find the information they need or desire. I have seen graphical site maps or diagrams. This one may not be necessary if you have a small site with everything in a user-friendly format. Therefore you usually see this option on large or hard to maneuver.

"Affiliate Information" - If you want resellers or if you plan to offer a way for others to market your products, this is a must. On this tab you can
