Bedroom decor: How to design a Disney princess theme bedroom

Your little Princess obsessed with the Disney princesses? You're in luck: designing her bedroom with these themes is a cinch.

First of all, head to your local warehouse store, where you can easily find a bedspread and pillow sham with the princesses already emblazoned on it. You may also find wallpaper, but because your child may eventually outgrow this theme, pick a color associated with your child's favorite princess (i.e. blue for Belle), and paint the walls instead.

Every princess has different items and themes associated with her. Pick your child's favorite princess and then choose some items from the suggestions below.

For Jasmine, try Arabian-themed items. A white canopy on your daughter's bed with golden tassels will set the theme, as will an imitation Persian "magic" carpet or rug, easily available at flea markets, garage sales or even your local carpet warehouse store. Large, brightly colored throw pillows can take the place of a sofa or chair.

Ariel, the princess from the sea, can be channeled through several items available at pet stores. Try buying a small aquarium or fish tank and a few tropically colored fish. Shell wind chimes can be found at some stores, or you can even make your own with your child using driftwood and shells found on the beach: drill holes in the driftwood and hang white string from them. Then string shells on the cord, knotting below each shell so that they are displayed beautifully. Shells can also be used to decorate plain wood furniture.

Belle was obsessed with books. Take advantage of this, and install several bookshelves in your child's bedroom. Stock the shelves with some of her favorites, along with (abridged) classics like Huckleberry Finn, Peter Pan or even the original Beauty and the Beast. You can also try replicating some of Belle's friends from the castle, like Lumiere the candelabra (an electric version is safe and fun) and Cogsworth the clock. Red rose motifs on the furniture can represent the rose that the Beast used to keep the time before his curse would be broken.

Sleeping Beauty, as her name suggests, is focused mainly upon the princess' 100-year rest, so why not install a bed worthy of such a slumber? Pick fluffy white pillows and blankets a white canopy. The story also includes the spindle of a spinning wheel: these are often available at garage sales... just remove the sharp spindle before placing it in your child's bedroom.

Much of Snow White's story revolved around the magic mirror that her Wicked Stepmother used to find her, so find a large and ornate mirror for your child's room. You don't have to spend a lot of money: the mirrors at warehouse stores will do nicely.

Decorating your child's room like that of a Disney princess doesn't take much: a little bit of creativity and some help from your local warehouse store is all you need to make Disney magic right at home.
