Chapter 10

Everyone back at the Command Center were on the verge of hair tearing. Even so they were not going down without a fight. Scouts have penetrated the fog of war behind the enemy base camp and confirmed that the HQ of the mysterious paramilitary is located at said location.

All commando units are to be inserted to conduct an all out assault against this facility. In a way this is the last stand of the Singapore army. Sixty commando warriors in all put in at once. Operation codenamed Omega. The day ended in a very bad note.

Friday

SGT Lee Longjun "Longge" was obviously part of this contingent. Strangely he did not feel as saddened or fearful at the tragic turn of events as he expected to be.

A much feared gangster in civilian life, he is reviled by many. It is only in such times that he could be considered a hero and always be one no matter the outcome of the war. And so he set off with his comrades with no regrets.

As the AC130 passed by the battlefield where the complete rout of the Infantry and Armour took place, everyone saw that the area is eerily still and strangely devoid of the enemy, though the remains of the failed and fallen is stark in plain view.

Many men professed anger and vowed revenge but no one could place any money on their chances with an unknown enemy possessing equally unknown technology for they have no choice but to play this game with their very lives at stake.

To the men's relief, no anti-air defenses were deployed against the AC130. On the contrary the unspoken impression is that the mysterious enemy is ushering them in instead. The air ahead is cloudy and clear and the lush forests below looked almost inviting.

Ten more minutes later, they could see it. An enormous temporary base comprising of 4 football fields. Surrounded by tall criss-crossed plastic fences, they saw unknown leviathan sized airships unloading equally unknown and formidable tanks which they assumed make short work of the Singapore forces the land battle before. Formations of heavily armed men in goggled suits marched in stolid discipline around every corner. To the commandos' surprise not even a single lookout tower has been erected. They could see everything clearly though the base is more than a mile away from their current location; a testament to the extensive logging done which is a remarkable feat in itself.

"Ready! Team Omega." CPT Sia shouted
