Divorce is one of the most traumatic events that can occur in life. Webster's dictionary defines divorce as a split which it is it is a split between two people who married and pledged to remain so for the rest of their natural lives. There is a phrase: "promises are meant to be broken" statistically that appears to be the case where marriage is concerned in todays society.
The top reason for divorce today is money: debt is on the rise and the "I want" syndrome is taking over the lives of many couples. "I want" a new vehicle, a larger home, "I want, I want,I want." The "I wants" equates to more credit card debt, or a second mortgage usually both. By the time a couple realizes it they are in debt over their heads. The fighting and screaming begins, they blame each other. Instead of that type of scenario what about sitting down and doing a budget. Doing a budget truly aids many couples in building a strong marriage because they are able to communicate better with each other.
Communication is the key word to any relationship in life: in a marriage it is critical especially in todays society. Years ago termed "the silent treatment" silence does not help the situation, silence only hurts all involved especially children. After a while that silence becomes is deafening to the other spouse. What is gained more anger, resentment, and hurt. Marriage counseling will only help if both parties are willing to talk things through.
Maturity and honesty are two factors in a marriage that should be never be overlooked. Teen marriages are especially prone to a lack of maturity. How many eighteen year olds are mature enough to cope with debt, rising costs of living, having babies? There are a few but by and far most lack the maturity. A lack of honesty can and will destroy any relationship not just a marriage, think about that before you enter into a relationship not afterward.
With maturity comes wisdom and understanding which are also key components for a good loving marriage. Divorce is the opposite it usually comes with immaturity, a lack of understanding, a lack of communication, a lack of honesty. Face it divorce should equate to a lack of not a split.
There is no formula for a happy healthy marriage except to work at it daily, and most importantly to love each other but then again that is important to everyday life.
