On the day that he was born
From my body he was torn
I had no idea and didn't plan
The new adventure we began
Before a week had passed in his life
A promise was made to counter all strife
I would always be there to make sure
This new life would always endure
To look at him he is the same
As any other boy with any other name
But in his mind there is a bind
To thoughts and things of another kind
He entered school like any child
But soon his behavior went quite wild
From school to school he would go
Where this was heading I didn't know
After a while I was stunned and amazed
How on Earth was I supposed to raise
This child who clearly had special needs
Still I would always be there as I agreed
As many months turned to passing years
And many troubles brought sad tears
The afflicted boy is now a young man
Alone in his room doing the best he can
Fears and phobias have locked the door
The rest of the world he will not explore
He stays in the safety of his own cocoon
Lost on his computer from midnight till noon
Each day is like the day before
I leave for work and open his door
Later I return to find him still there
As he was earlier and in the same chair
I often wonder how his time here will go
I hope he finds happiness and will grow
How to help him I haven't the first clue
But love and feed him I will surely do
In the end no one plans a life this way
That's life you know but I must say
Love will guide a couragous stride
For faith and hope walk side by side
