Reflections: Scars

It's hard to see the scars many people carry around with them everyday. They look like any normal ordinary person and they function in the same manner. Do we ever stop to think what scars people carry around with them on a daily basis? "No" one knows what a person has gone through by looking at them. There's "no" way we can see the scars of a broken heart, imprints of scars left in a soul or mind...most scars are hidden and out of sight. These type scars remain for a lifetime and many will never heal because they were embedded in their minds. The people carrying these types of scars suffer most of the time on a daily basis.

They hardly ever open up and tell people about the scars that torture them every day. They hardly ever tell people of the nightmares they suffer from the mistreatment they received as a child. Many people have suffered through bouts of incest, cruelty, words spoken that crushed their ego's, being placed in an orphanage without a family until they were eighteen years old, never feeling a warm hug or someone to say "I love you," being abandoned and left to live in foster home after foster home and being shunned as though they were not the child of anyone. I know several people who have lived just like this and they have a hard time accepting anyone's love or accepting any sort of praise because they feel "nothing" because they were treated so cruelly in their lives. Many girls who have suffered from the hands of their own father molesting them at a young age go for years without ever telling a soul and they live their lives in shear hell.

Most of these people never get counseling or the help of a psychologist to help them cope with their feelings of "no" love, distrust, fear, lack of self-confidence, being able to communicate, feelings of unworthiness, etc. Carrying scars around that won't heal is like carry a fifty pound weight around your neck. I know I carry scars of a small nature around my neck every day and it's not a good feeling. I wouldn't want to walk in any of these people's shoes who have suffered these types of trauma in their lives...it's not an easy task to do.

I've found in my life, I try not to judge a person when I first meet them because none of us knows what type a life that person has had to endure in their life. I try to get to know someone and be considerate of their every fault because the scars you see on the outside, never reflects the scars a person carries on the inside. I never jump to conclusion's when a person is disgruntled or has a different type of personality because I don't know what that person has gone through in their life. Most of the time when people have peculiarities in their personalities, there's a deep seeded reason for it.
