To Eek Out a Living
The money is slim and our budget is tight,
for us to have money just isn't right.
Scrimping and scraping to eek out a living,
what will be left to have a Thanksgiving?
Many jobs have left and so few to be found,
I won't earn enough to feed my hound.
I'd start a home-biz if the funds were there,
but I know it would leave the Christmas Tree bare.
Unable to save or buy a quantity deal,
perhaps once a month we get a good meal.
With no insurance to treat our bad health,
it's very unlikely we will ever find wealth.
Don't give us a handout to help us get by,
we just want a chance that is not a lie.
We want a good life that is free of crime,
the government could fix it if they had time.
I once had a job that paid good dough,
but the company done shipped it to Mexico.

Take a walk in my shoes.
Experience one day in my life.
See the anguish, the exhaustion,
The terror, the strife.

I salute our flag
With my oven Mit
Changing diapers to the sound

Here inside this body
Lives a ME that no one knows
A ME that's hard to understand
A ME I haven't chose
To be bitter and misgiving
Is
The world on my shoulders, a smile on my face
The girl in the mirror is hard to embrace
I'm a mother of three, yet I tend

A day in my life
A sky of often-grey
A never-lifting cloud
An endless fall of rain
A bout of shining sun
Playing peek-a-boo
Between
