What is the logic behind getting a prenuptial agreement? If I am rich and my fianc is not; she might be marrying me for my money. Or I am rich and I don't want to share my money with my wife when I decide to part ways with her. While my assessment may be very basic but it is certainly at the heart of the matter. To me it seems I'm not sure of my marriage lasting a lifetime in either of the two scenarios. Well, then why am I getting married? I should not.

Unfortunately life is no longer this simple. Plenty of people marry several times in their lifespan. Some beautiful young women have made tons of money by marrying and subsequently divorcing rich people. That is the argument for the prenuptial agreement. It may be required for a certain category of people at certain stages of their life. They may have their own ways of life where wealth has far greater significance in life than their own marriage. Thankfully such people are minority even among the more affluent class.

Should it be made compulsory? Absolutely not. It actually seems like rubbish. It seems like people are being encouraged to lose faith in their marriage. Most god fearing law abiding citizens of their respective countries are able to hold on to their spouse for life. It does get difficult at times, but you are supposed to get through them. Now if I have a prenuptial agreement in place wouldn't I be tempted to take the easy way out, even if I know it's wrong. Knowing that an easy option for ending a marriage exists can often be one of the reasons contributing to divorce.

While these agreements may be a good option for certain people, most of us are happier the way we are. We would rather risk getting into marriage by giving it greater confidence of an old-fashioned marriage, than be safe in a matrimony which was never intended to succeed. I say this because the agreement implies there is a doubt. The most important factor of marriage is together unto death do us part. The agreement implies we are looking for a short term arrangement, at the end of which we are supposed to go our separate ways.

Imagine a scenario where the husband has accumulated great wealth since his marriage. For some reason there seems to be marital discord in their relationship. How would the husband's thinking be affected by a prenuptial agreement?

It would be rather interesting to look at the success rates of marriages with prenuptial agreements as compared to those without. The results would seal the fate of prenuptial agreements. I think I'm smiling even as my mind thinks of the obvious answer.
