The sun is beating and it is a beautiful day out, which means it is time for some nice cold drinks to help us all unwind and chill out.
Here's a nifty little recipe that is dressed to impress. Whether you make the fully loaded version or make it for the kids, it's both gorgeous and delicious!
Ingredients:
12 ounces frozen strawberry daiquiri concentrate
12 ounces frozen pina coloda mix
rum
strawberries (optional)
shredded coconut (optional)
Directions:
Blend the strawberry daiquiris and pina colodas separately. For best results, keep one in the freezer while you make the other, so the drinks will stay nice, cold, and thicker. Using a tall glass, pour both mixes into the glass at the same time, keeping each to its own side. If you would like, you can garnish it with a bunch of strawberries on a skewer, and some shredded coconut. Another alternative would be to swirl the mixes, or even do layers. Try it out and have fun with it!
This recipe can be altered, as well. Try making virgin drinks for a summer lunch. I have also seen recipes for this drink that use vodka instead of rum.
Another recipe I found was the following, which I believe is the recipe to make the same drink without mixes or alcohol, but I have yet to try it myself:
Ingredients:
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz coconut cream
1/2 oz half & half cream
1 1/2 oz strawberry puree
1 1/2 oz lime juice
1/4 oz simple syrup
1 cup ice, crushed
Directions:
Place pineapple juice, coconut cream, half and half, and a half cup of ice in the blender, blending until smooth. Pour the mixture into a highball glass, and place it in the freezer. Place strawberry puree, lime juice, simple syrup, and the remaining half cup of ice into the blender, blending until smooth. Pour the strawberry-lime mixture into the same highball glass over a bar spoon, and enjoy! You can also garnish this with the strawberries and/or the coconut if you would like. If you want to make this one alcoholic (hilarious), simply add about 2 1/2 ounces of rum or vodka to each mixture before blending.
I would suggest using the mix recipe for larger groups and parties, and the scratch recipe for special occasions and what I like to call "cuddle nights." However, if you have the time and money, even though I have yet to try it, I have found in the past that making the drinks from scratch usually taste better than using the mixes. That could just be the flavor of pride from all the work that goes into them, though! :) Enjoy, and happy drinking!
