The Mask of Insanity
When first meeting a career psychopath, virtually anyone will fall for him. His appearance is charismatic, and his background is amazing. He is a famous political leader, a distinguished university lecturer, a respected physician, a trusted institution manager, or all of the above. Not only is he perfectly dressed, well bred, attractive, and entertaining, but he has remarkable positive attitude, unlimited self-confidence, tremendous energy, ambitious character, innovative and competitive spirit, and bold ideas. He displays incredible CV, loads of money and influence, and a lofty social status. He occupies a multitude of high-rank positions, and he is simply unsurpassed in everything he does. Excellence is his defining catchword, and he seems to achieve it effortless, as if he were just practicing some leisure sports. Nobody can understand how does he do that, and why does he never stop?
He is full of good intentions and generous ideas. He is head-over-heels involved in numerous important activities, usually no less than three at a time: he is designing a new development plan, presiding a session, coordinating a research program, running a business transaction, making a press conference or a TV interview, organizing a social manifestation, or giving a speech at a public reunion. He attends business meetings, scientific seminars, political campaigns, social parties, and official dinners. He rushes from one place to another, flies, drives, makes countless phone calls, shakes thousands of hands, and talks endlessly. Unfortunately, that leaves him little time to think and listen. He has to be everywhere, know and do everything, interfere with everybody, and never miss a single opportunity. He is simultaneously found in all the important environments: academics, trade, politics, media, sports, health care, and private clubs. He is an expert in everything. He is strong, he is huge, he is insatiable, and he is unstoppable. Surely, the man is a genius. Compared to him, everybody else looks small, slow, and stupid. He is like a giant among dwarfs. He seems to possess an engine inside his body and a computer inside his head. He cannot afford any rest; he needs to go for everything, get into every possible competition and combination, and control everything that moves. He is after money and power, titles and awards, veneration and glory, and whatever anyone can dream of. He wants it all and he wants it now. Nothing is too hard or too good for
