Poetry: Books

by Matthew Routledge

Created on: May 31, 2008

It was once,
Long ago,
Like some odd, written seance
Going to and fro

Reading forgotten words,
Lost in the dust.
Of African herds,
Machines, that in books, never rust

I lived my childhood
Within the covers of a book
It was with the kings and Wizards, i stood
Battled Captain Hook

I grew into man,
Books, i still loved,
My hands, down the spine, ran
Of a book, so unloved

Like the child forgotten,
I took it's hand
Rebound the red silk cotton
The book, of the law of the land

My love affair began as a child,
Carried on through life, in violent lust
My passion growing wild
Until it was so robust

I carry with me my love,
Of the paper, spine and page,
The word, written by A,Labove
Continuing the love, with which it was made
