Tips for participating in online classes

Taking online classes sounds easy right? Well, not really, not for everybody. You are left to your own devices, with no supervision, and sometimes without directions that you clearly understant. Online classes have been a god-send to many, but there are definitely strategies that would help more people be successful in getting better grades when participating in classes that are online.

Before even enrolling in them you must consider the cost, in dollars and in time. The cost of online courses is way less than a traditional four year college. But one must also consider how much time you can honestly and productively devote to each session. On line there is not the same comeraderie as in the class room. On line you miss the back and forth dailogue between teachers and students who had the same questions you were thinking about. On line you tend not to participate in discussions except when you have to. It seems that when taking on line courses, one does the bare minimum because of other commitments they may be trying to take care of. For example, some people are trying to do their classes while they are at work. Of course that person's time is divided between the work they are supposed to be doing, and their class work. Also their are parents trying to finish school and get degrees on line. Sometimes the kids and family members can be a distraction.

For participating in online classes I would suggest that you have a place to work and study and be in front of the computer that is away from distractions. I also suggest that you set goals for yourself and try to meet those goals. Class participation is a must, even though it's nothing like how it goes in the real class room. It shows the professor that you are on line and reading and seeing what else is going on and not just posting your assignment and getting off the computer, which is what most on line class takers would like to do. I strongly suggest that you stay in constant contact with the online professor to show them that you're serious and you mean business. Ask questions, start forums, and participate in other classmates emails and questions.

An incentive to making sure that you do well is to see if your employers will pay for the classes that you take. In some programs, you only get reimbursed if you get a C or above, so a good tip is to do everything in your power to get a good grade so that you can get your money back. Money is always a good motivational factor.

GOOD LUCK
