How to start your own at-home child-care business

How To Start Your Own At Home Childcare Business

Could we all agree that daycare is expensive? Of course! The larger daycare centers which have more overhead tend to cost more than the at home daycare providers because they don't have as much overhead to pay. Also, there are sooo many daycares to choose from. Choosing a provider depends on financial situations, location, and a host of other things. So, it's safe to say that there is always and will forever be a market for daycare. Just like any other business anyone wants to start, you must do your homework. Here's some things to do:

Take the proper classes
Make sure your home meets the lawful requirements
Be professional at all times
Start networking, letting people know that you'll be opening your daycare soon
Research the daycares around you to see what they offer and how much they charge
Stay abreast of recalled products and safety concerns when gathering items for use with your daycare children.

Starting an at home childcare business can be a bit stressful if you don't know what to do and if you need to get a lot done for your home to meet the requirments, but don't be discouraged. Some people use in home childcare because they can't afford the large centers. Don't be greedy, be flexible with pricing. People will appreciate it if you work with them. Also, stick to your guidelines that you will spell out in your handbook that you make for the parents. If your closing time is 6:00 start changing extra for latecomers. They need to know that you have a life to, and to respect your time.

Take particular care when putting together your packets to give to the parents. Include your opening and closing time, what you expect from the parents, what they should expect from you, all necessary fees, your closing dates, if you provide before/aftercare, field trips, what day of the week you expect payment to be made, medical records forms for the childrens doctors to fill out, emergency contacts form, and who can pick up the child.

Just be sure to keep in mind how precious the little ones are that you plan on caring for and don't do anything to or with them that you would not want done to your child. Remember to keep kids safe, provide a healthy learning environment for them, safe play areas, and clean eating areas. Stimulate their little minds and let them have fun at the same time. Each parent, each week at least, should be given their child's progress report with what they have dont that week, including any problems or accomplishments, and what that child needs to work on.
