Right now in Chicago Illinois down the street from me you can by a pack of cigarettes for less compared to one gallon of gas. Most people believe and understand smoking is unhealthy but to all gas is killing our wallets. But wait! The problem with a boycott is people still need fuel for everything else we do in our daily lives. The immediate reaction to a question like this is "yes" that is the easy way to do things and a massive effort could create more noise. However gas heats our houses, cooks our food and so if we continue to affect one part of the oil industry another energy industry will charge you more for them providing you with that energy.

Oil is needed no matter how you look at it. Although, there are many more alternative fuels that are in production now and more on the horizon that will help reduce everyone's need to use unleaded fuel at the pump. There are bigger problems with our country that is more important than fuel cost. The price of health care better education for secondary and elementary schools and less unemployment are some that I can think of that are just as important.

It is really essential then to make people accountable and make sure you make a voice by being a registered voter and getting out to vote for a change. That is the least anyone can do for a possible positive outcome. Last general election when Bush and Kerry were on the ballot only fifty percent of the population voted for a presidential candidate and I understand the numbers are showing apparent increase in the presidential primaries but they need to be more in the general election. If we matter so much about fuel costs, food costs and other costs then the best we can do is vote because we still are in a democracy. The reality is we let big companies get big by us spending on everything else as a consumer nation and we allowed big businesses to affect the democratic process. Yes those companies have a big voice but there are another half of the country that choose to not vote. Understand you do have a right not to vote but make a choice that affects people as a whole and not single out people that get up everyday for a purpose to help their love ones, just as those people that choose not to vote.

As you can see and think about, there are bigger fish to fry and people have the ability to change and make more of a difference. I am not asking for boycotts and striking just do as all the greatest have ever told us. Let's do it calmly and collectively and our lord Jesus Christ, Abraham or Ala will protect us as long as we all still have faith. In addition, the greatest leaders and motivators in history have taught us one thing is to not give up when times are not looking so great. You must unite when times are bad and continue to teach others that we still are a country of people with the rights and ability to change for the good.
