Short stories: Love

by Matt Whiting

Created on: May 30, 2008

Mikel came from the pits of hell, he lived among the temptress demons of the underworld, his jet black hair marked his face like a scar and among the dark angels, he was the most beautiful. Markus reigned from above the clouds, he lived with the most beautiful of the angels yet none compared to his own beauty, brilliant ivory shoulder length hair danced in the wind and of all the angels, from heaven and hell Markus was the only one more beautiful than Mikel. When the earth was young, these two friends were inseparable, their friendship ran deeper than the roots of the most ancient of trees and stronger than any desert wind or tropical thunderstorms. But, Mikel always fell to temptation and soon dwell-ed with the demons of desire in the pits of hell, while Markus lived with the most pure of angels in heaven.

Despite their differences, the gods of hell and o heaven allowed the two to meet once every year for one day, but only one day, and so, since their separation every year when the winter turned to spring they would walk upon the young earth and watch it grow.

Eventually, the two angels gave up
"why would i walk this cold earth which is worse than the hell i dwell in daily?"
"why would i leave the beauty of heaven for this?"
But the next year they returned, but as they opened their mouths to proclaim their disgust, the most beautiful creature they had ever laid their eyes on skipped past, a young girl, no older than thirteen years of age, with flowers in her hair, mud on her white skirt and she had a voice more heavenly than those of the angels in heaven, in fact, she was more beautiful than any angel, dwelling in either heaven or hell. In awe, the two angels followed the beautiful girl, who brought smiles to the ugly people, who made the flowers a more brilliant shade and who inspired the birds to sing of her beauty. Markus and Mikel followed the young girl until the night fell, then watched over her until the day ended, regrettably leaving her for the next world.
Every year they would return, watching her age and she became the most beautiful of all creatures on the earth, the angels were in love,
