Zam Zam water is one of the most interesting aspects of the Islam faith. Unlike in Christianity with holy water, Zam Zam is not served in mosques during ceremonies. And unlike holy water it is said to have the direct power to heal the body and soul through the simple act of drinking it. Such a remarkable phenomenon certainly deserves closer examination.

DISCOVERY OF THE WELL

Though the details are murky, Islamic lore states that Adam built the Bait-ul-Allah (House of Allah) between two hills called Safa and Marwah in Masjid al Haram in Mecca. Yes, this was the same Adam from the Garden of Eden (the Koran and Bible tell mostly the same stories). Over time this temple was reduced to mostly rubble. The prophet Abrahaman lived near this area with his wife Hajar. They had a young son. This being a desert region, water was very scarce.

The mother grew desperate to find water for her son. She wandered between the two hills seven times searching for either sustenance or help from some stranger. She found nothing and no one. Looking down on all of this, Allah felt pity for her plight and sent down and angel named Jibril (Gabriel in the Catholic lexicon) down to help her. He floated before her and scooped out some earth with the tip of his wing, about thirty meters deep. From this hole water appeared.

It flowed so readily that the woman pleaded for it to stop. In her native tongue this translated to Zom Zom, which formed the basis for the term Zam Zam water.

THE POWER AND PURPOSE OF ZAM ZAM WATER

Though most believe that the water is divinely blessed there is a slightly different theory that has been set forth among some sects, that being that the humans themselves help charge it. According to many spiritual and metaphysical philosophies water can hold energy. And thought itself is the purest energy. Therefore, with millions of people making the journey to the Zam Zam well every year you can imagine that this water has been blessed and charged with positive energy many times over.

Of course even people believing the human element has an influence, possibly even a predominant influence, also acknowledge that Zam Zam water still derives most of its energy from Allah himself. The majority of Muslims find this to be the sole root of Zam Zam's power.

Other than its spiritual energies this is also said to be the only water in the world which never evaporates!
