Poetry: A soldier's tale

I am a man

I am in the Military
I work for the US of A

I am proud of what I do
To myself I wish I could be true
I'm taught to never let my feelings get in the way

My wife expects me to be gentle
My country expects me to fight
To remain balanced....
I try with all my might

In my line of work, we walk and carry a big stick
Weakness, is looked down upon...
I'm not allowed to be mentally sick
I'm a soldier, everything else gets pushed aside
I am so lonely...
In no one I feel I can confide

I am not who you think I am

You won't recognize my face
I am frightened and confused
I am so tired of being used
I need a shoulder to cry on too
At times, I don't know what to do
Sometimes, I feel like a big disgrace

Hush! It is a secret....
Be as quiet as you can....
No one must know....
That, I let my feelings show....

Because, after all....

I am a man
