Does attending church matter?

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is . . .

Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)

Church is a very important part in the life and growth of a Christian. A lot of people go to

church whenever it is convenient - if there is no ball game on, if they feel rested enough to get

up in time, if it is Easter or Christmas, etc. - but I believe that church is very important in the life

of a Christian and should be a priority.

I've been going to church all of my life, but until recently I think that I was going just

because I "had to".

The church that I had been attending all of my life closed a few months ago. At first I

was afraid of trying a new church, but I have found that all things do work together for good

(Romans 8:28).

The first week that my siblings and I attended our new church I was out of my comfort

zone and uneasy. The way in which they did things there was different from what I was

used to and the size of the church was larger also.

I know that God had a reason for this change in churches. I have grown to like this new

church.

My old church was put in my life for a time. Growing up there was a good experience,

but gradually over the years it started to slowly "die".

At our old church there were only a few families who attended regularly. At this "new"

church there are a few dozen families.

I feel that our old church was stuck in a rut, and it was holding us in that rut also. When

our old church closed it gave us the "freedom" to go elsewhere.

The pastor at this new church is passionate and very in love with God. The sermons at

this church are applicable to my life and (usually) keep my attention. I find myself growing

stronger in my love for God through the services at this church.

I believe that church is very important because it keeps me focused on God, and it keeps

God as the highest priority in my life. I feel that if I stopped going to church, if I was no longer

in the habit of making God my priority on Sunday mornings, then I might also stop making Him

my priority each night - in my personal "Bible study/prayer time". And if I stopped reading my

Bible and praying, then God would totally lose His place in my life. Going to church keeps

Christians "grounded" in their faith.

Are you attending church regularly? Is the church that you are attending alive and full of

love for God? If not find a good church with a pastor whom you understand and who gives

messages that apply to you. Attend regularly, and watch yourself grow.
