Fishing in Naples is as popular as sunning on the pristine beaches. Because of the mild temperatures there are always two or more popular fish species in season for vacationing anglers. This is likely the reason why there are over 30 different offshore and backwater fishing charter guide services in proximity. For those wanting to seek out their own hot spot, Naples also has plenty of marinas offering boat rentals.
So not to be disappointed on your fishing trip know what is in season. Don't expect an offshore chartered service to find Tarpon during autumn and winter months. Even Captain Nemo won't be able to help you there. Amberjack, Black Grouper and King Mackerel is likely what you will be fishing for. The same applies when trying your luck in the bays and creeks. Visiting the area in April through November is the best time to hunt down a delicious, tasty Redfish or two in the inlet waters. If you catch two though, you better have two people in the boat; state law permits one 18"-27" Redfish per day per person. If your vacation goal is to fish a certain species, don't rely on your bass fishing buddy at home to have all the answers. Do some research on your own before finalizing the dates of your trip.
The very first spot a vacationing angler should visit is the Naples Fishing Pier. You are sure to pick up some good advice from experienced locals. So don't be afraid to just walk up to a sun-bronzed salty dog holding a fishing rod sitting on his cooler. This is how you will get the scoop on the tides, the weather and how it all impacts catching the big one.
Prior to dropping that hard-earned cash or plastic to pay for a charter or boat rental, consider the amount of time you wish to spend in the blazing sun, ocean motion and away from those traveling with you. For the amateur angler, especially if children are participating, do not expect your excitement to last longer than four hours. Also, it is vitally important to bring over-the-counter seasick medication with you. Getting a bite while trying to hold your breakfast down can ruin what should be an exciting Florida adventure. If you are an experienced angler, this of course is your dream vacation. But don't forget the sun block, sunglasses, baseball cap and blessing from traveling mates. Furthermore, if these mates are family members plan on your credit card being used in your absence. While you are out catching the biggest fish on the boat, they'll be out dining at a local seafood restaurant and buying sea shells or shark tooth souvenirs.
