You just graduated from high school and now you are a graduate! All the friends you went to elementary, middle, and high school will soon be parting ways as they go off to college. You don't care.. you are ready to make new friends and meet new people. You're a little nervous about being out on your own, without your parents, but you know you'll be okay. Yes, you'll be okay but you will need to adjust some.
Here are some tips that will help you transition from high school to college:
# 1) Don't take your letter jacket to college:
Yep, I know you paid $150 + for that jacket alone, and even more getting academic patches and pins sewn on. Oh my, you were class president, in National Honor Society, All State wrestler, and even a member of the State winning 4x4 track team. That's great. Good for you. I hope you wore that jacket everyday when you were in high schoolwhen people cared.
No one cares in college. You got into the college because of all your great achievements. Well everyone in your class got in because they too had great achievements. Everyone in your class is just as good as you so your letter jacket does not impress anyone. Take a picture of it and put it on your wall. Make new achievements at your college. Keep your letter jacket at home and only wear it around campus on Halloween or during some strange hall night program. Otherwise, people will look at you weirdly and think you miss home. Bringing your letter jacket is like bringing a security blanket. You've already packed the blanket that your great grandmother Ida made for you 18 years ago. You are taking that to college with you. So why do you need to bring another security blanket in the form of a letter jacket? You don't.
# 2 ) Don't stick only to the people who went to high school with you:
When you get to college, meet new people and make new friends. Be open and free. Its ok to be friends with people who are different than you. College is about opening your mind. Maybe in high school, you never spoke to people who looked a certain way, because you had a reputation to uphold. Well guess what? You're going to be a first year in college, so when you get to school hang out with everyone. You can have weekly dinners with your high school mates. But make sure you meet their friends and vice versa. Don't limit yourself to what you know. If anything, make the effort to reach the unknown.
# 3) Change your sleeping patterns:
Many of you either sleep too early or sleep too late. If
