Wisdom is knowing how and when to apply knowledge. We may know and understand many things but we are foolish and blunderous if we allow that information to escape us in an inopportune moment or do not recognise the moment when it should be used. So a wise person is ONE WHO HOLDS THEIR TONGUE UNTIL THEY ARE SURE THAT THE MOMENT IS RIGHT. But when the time is right they fearlessly speak or act.
Wisdom is attained through experience, study and investigation. So it involves RECOGNIZING OUR LIMITATIONS AND SEEKING THE COUNCIL AND ANSWERS OF OTHERS, being a good listener and observer then making up our own minds on the matter and FEARLESSLY ATTEMPTING THINGS, AND APPLYING WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT.
A wise person weighs up carefully the knowledge they have and the circumstances, and if they need more time to think things through they do so. They are not easily influenced by the comments or actions of others. THEY KNOW THEIR OWN MIND AND CAN KEEP IT, BUT THEY RECOGNISE THE VALUE OF THE EXPERIENCE AND VIEWS OF OTHERS AND ALLOWS THEM INTO THE EQUATION WHEN MAKING DECISIONS.
I have heard people I consider to be wise thoughtfully tell me that they need to reflect on a matter some more before they give me the advice or the answer I have asked them for. I do not regard this as a weakness. THEY ARE WISE ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT A QUICK RESPONSE WOULD NOT BE THE WISEST.
