Gay marriages may be the most heated topic of our time. There are many people who say it should be legalized, and many people who do not think so. I happen to be on those who believe gay marriages should be legal. This is a painful thing for me to admit seeing that I was raised in a very strict Christian home. Religiously I would have to say that it is wrong for a homosexual to get married, however this is out weighed by the fact that I am told not to judge others. I am not perfect and will therefore I not want to be the one to "cast the first stone."
Homo-sexuals are people, and according to the constitution they have the same right to happiness that all straight people do. Why should the liberty of straight men and women be the only one protected? What happened to separation of church and state. Religiously we are all told to uphold the law of the land. We should not just uphold the law for those we like. . . or those we feel like. Rather all men. When "All men are created equal" was written, it was speaking of all men and women in the country. It does not state that "all men are created equal, but straight men are more equal than gay men and should have more rights because of it." That is ridiculous. America was formed around freedom. Religious freedom, freedom from oppression, etc. We the ones who speak so highly of freedom have now become the oppressors. We don't like homo-sexuality, so we try to hide it. Mask it from the world, when we should be embracing it, whether it is right or wrong.
Look world our country is based on freedom, see? We allow everyone that legally lives in our borders to exercise there rights. We don't slam them with restrictions, and prevent them from doing what they want (within the legal limits of the law). No, we accept everyone as they are. Sure we have had problems in the past, everyone does, what matters is that you learn from your mistakes and move on.
There are also a number of rights that married couples receive but homosexuals do not. I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry comes to mind. 1 of two things need to happen. First legalize gay marriages, so that there families can be legally protected, just like the straight families. Or number 2, ban straight marriages, so everyone is governed by the same laws rules and regulations. This hypocrisy needs to stop. Put and end to this ridiculous charade and let's start upholding the constitution again.
