Do we regress as we get older?

I believe that we do regress but that we should not. There was a period in my life that I regressed and became extremely introverted and isolated. In this year I lost my mother to cancer, my husband to other women, and gained two kids through temporary adoption!
Moving forward was not on the agenda!
Regression is when you step out from living life and wondering on the beauties of each day. Bouncing back from these trying experiences has taught me to live each day to the fullest; dusting myself off and packing all the excess baggage up under my feet!

It is the mindset of the American culture to regress and settle into retirement as they get older. Contrary to pop culture as we age, life should be grabbed by the horns and the reins of restrictions released only for the young! As we grow we should enjoy the liberties that experience has afforded to us. Come on, ask yourself would you have ever been convinced that jumping from the roof on to the awaiting trampoline was a bad idea unless you had tried out for yourself? And remember when you were sure that the slip of cardboard you placed at the bottom of your shoe would protect your feet as just as well as the missing rubber sole, until you came inside the house bleeding? Let's not forget the conviction you felt after having kissed the boy your mother warned you to stay away from or how much you cried after the girl that broke your heart? Regress? Not I!
Yeah, experience is the great teacher! Now that I am older holding my tongue as well as sleeping with the guy after the first date are more than likely options! Take more walks, eat slower and healthier, love longer and harder, but forgive fast. Someone said that women do not age they become seasoned but I would say seasoned or not I am more excited about life now than when I was thirty! There is no time to regress, do not look back, for the past cannot be changed and the future is not promised. Live as though today was truly your last!
Do not regress and fall into the aches of age, AA-RP membership, the call outs of Tuesday night bingo games, or the cold embrace of those at the assisted living facility!
I would adjure you to approach each day with great expectations in mind. Kiss quickly, laugh often, and smile always. Do not be foolish in conceiving that life is to be a bed of roses but allow the wisdom in knowing the difference between the things you can change and the things you can not be your guide.
