Tips for raising great kids

HOW TO RAISE A DEAD BEAT CHILDWHAT NOT TO DO.

How do you explain to someone that they are raising a deadbeat child? I suppose you don't.or so I have been instructed not to by my husband. So this is my way of letting all the parents in the world know what things not to do when raising a child. After all my examples do stem from watching family raise their children. Don't get me wrong I do have my own but since the oldest is only 7 much of this comes from the things I see.

First things firstThey turn 16 and they want a car. Any parent who loves there child wants to give them the best. They don't want to see them have to hold a job while in school. This usually leads to the parents buying the child a car. The problem with this is that the child did not have to work for this item and so it looses it value in their eyes. For the parent who is worried about grades while the child is in school and workingDON'T. It can be done, many teenagers do itpersonally I think they are better for it. Just make sure to evaluate with your teenager how much they are willing to earn towards that car so they can learn to budget themselves to earn what they want. If the grades do start to slip then the car goes if they are not prepared to work even harder in school so that they can work after school then they will need to rethink the amount of money they want to spend on the vehicle they choose to buy.

Second.Upon graduation it is customary that the child leave the nest. I am only saying this in the respects that they have decided not to go to college. I can fully agree with a child living at home during summer break or if they are a full time student at a community college. However, If they have made the choice not to go to college they need to be on their own and holding a fulltime job. I understand letting them live at home for a while to get some money in savings and I actually would agree with that strategy.but please, please I beg you do not let your children live off of you for years or pay for the thing they want like a car and insurance, also when they do move out do not pay for each and everything they can not afford. If you do have to step in and help then only help with the necessities, otherwise they will always look for you to bail them out.

Third.Once the child has an apartment and is on there own here are my three examples of things you absolutely should not do: Do not give them cash to get there hair done or go out and party with friends, Do not pay for there rent and utility bills without expecting to pay you back, and absolutely do not pay for their clothes or groceries on top of everything else.

The very last bit of advicethe best piece of advice I can give about your child's financial future. Start youngmake them learn the value of working for a dollar. Even when they are small and can learn to do chores to earn things they want like video games or money for the movies. As they grow up and can earn more on their own show then that when they want something they need to work for it. I know this might seem harsh but it is the real world, and if they don't learn it now they will never truly understand it.
