The role of the US military in the various war ravaged countries has increased in manifolds over the past few years. The enhanced activities of the US military after the proposed war on terrorism as a state policy have lead to thousands of army men being deputed in the war ravaged countries. In the search of militants as well as to transform the face of the nations like Iraq and Afghanistan, the US has taken up an all embracing operation which has long-term impact on the global economy and politics. The self assigned role played by the US has drawn fierce criticism as well as protest from masses both inside and outside of the US. This places the superpower amid constant scrutiny for all the activities that have been undertaken so far in the war-battered countries.
The military success has been achieved very fast and at the cost of the smallest casualties in the history, chiefly because of the sophisticated weaponry and communication system. The US expeditions in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken the help of the highest technological sophistication of the 21st century. At the same time the US military has not overlooked the need for nonmilitary and humanitarian support for the population affected by prolonged fighting. The chief objective of the US military, to uproot terrorism from the various pockets has faced setbacks again and again due to the stronghold of the groups among local people. The US military has simply failed to establish their position as the patrons of justice and democracy in those countries.
To combat this problem, the US military has, of late, been engaged in various humanitarian activities in those countries. the betterment of the living conditions of the thousands of families in refugee camps and destroyed by the war has become a part of their regular activities. The changing focus from armed activities to constructive helps, with medical facilities, food supplies and occasional rescue operations , have slowly increased the acceptance of the US military among the people affected by war. The military has been engaged in various activities like the construction of devastated architecture, providing the youth with skill enhancement trainings and organizing health camps for the overall respite of the population exhausted and emaciated by prolonged fear and sufferings.
To revive a war -battered community, sustainable and planned effort is needed. There should be no doubt that the US military is equipped for the job. The efficient men on duty are the best of the lot. But considering the global concern, sufficient representations from the other countries are also needed. Otherwise, however good may the US military support, the criticism is bound to resurface again and again. The US authorities should build a consensus in carrying on the nonmilitary efforts in the war ravaged countries with proper sanction from the United Nations. The native representatives should be given proper importance in the development councils. The betterment of the living condition of those in misery is the responsibility of all the conscientious nations and the US should not try to do the work single handedly.
