You are a writer. You want to promote your work. You have written Helium articles and you want to earn more money from them. You could place links to your articles on a personal website, or on your profile at a community website, but then you need to promote those sites to get your links seen.

The people who benefit most by promoting their work on a blog are the self-employed, freelancers, people who earn money from referrals and affiliate marketing, and people who like writing.

You should really only start a blog if you are prepared to keep it updated with regular new content and to take an active part in the blogging community. Blogs take a lot of commitment and effort to maintain, so you should not make the mistake of thinking you can create one with a single introductory post and then hope people will find it. You will need to spend a lot of time promoting and networking so your blog will be found, read and will stay active.

A writer has a big advantage when it comes to blogging. A good writer has the skill, the imagination and the enthusiasm to post regularly on their blog. A blog will get a higher page ranking with search engines when it has new content added all the time.

Being part of the blogging community is a great way of networking and getting the right sort of traffic to your blog. It does not have to be a blog about writing or about making money on the Internet. Your blog can be used as a showcase for your talent as a writer and, of course, it will help to promote your work. Many visitors to your blog will want to click on your links to read your Helium articles. You can add a separate link to each article, or a single link to your article list at Helium.

If you want to become a serious freelance writer, what better way could there be for promoting your writing talent than to show your blog to anyone who is interested in buying your work, so they can see the quality and range of your writing.

The question is whether it is better to put up a website to promote your work, or simply to blog about it. Personally I like to write on my blog about the different ways I am earning money on the Internet. I post about all my writing activities. I post whenever I get paid and I include referral links, so this helps me to earn additional money from my referrals. For me, and others like me, a blog is definitely better than a website for promoting my work.
