Poetry: Love at first sight

He asked me gently one night,
If I loved him at first sight.
I think he wanted a "Yes", followed by a kiss,
A promise that I have always loved him,
Always will.

But I don't lie.

I stared him in the eyes,
and told him the truth.

I didn't love him when I first saw him,
I barely noticed him.
Good looking, yes, but loveable?
How was I to know?

It wasn't until I heard his laugh,
Felt his warmth as he took him into my arms,
Until I noticed the little things about him,
That I knew he was the one.

Like how he cracks his thumb
When he is nervous,
Or how he is the only one who can play with my hair,
without making me mad.

How he can talk to me about anything,
Everything,
And I can do exactly the same.

How with one look,
And know exactly what he is thinking,
How I read him like a book.

I wish I could tell him that I loved him at first sight,
But I can't,
So I don't.

And the thing I love most of all,
He kisses me on the head and says,
He loves me even more.

I don't have to say anything,
He understands me.
One glance could never give us what we have.

One glance would never, ever be enough for us.
