Poetry: Deja Vu

by Marlene Calder

Deja Vu

Have you ever been to a house
where you felt like you were home?

But you hadn't ever been there
at least not that you'd known.

Have you ever met a stranger
with a real familiar face?

As if you had once known them,
some other time, some other place.

Have you ever spoken words
that you thought you said before?

Not uttered recently,
but in days of yore.

Have you ever walked down
an unfamiliar road?

But felt that upon it
you had once often strode.

Have you ever had the feeling
that you've lived a life before?

You can feel it in your bones,
right to your very core.

Who can say for certain
that we don't have multiple lives?

And though a body may perish
it has a soul that survives.
