Crazy about the colour blue
Why does blue sing to me? My eyes are blue, but that's not it.
Blue is water, deep and soothing. Float endlessly with no fears and no worries, nothing but the cool blue supporting you at the surface of the pool/lake/ocean.
Or dive to indigo depths that are inviting and scary at the same time. Enveloped in this dark blue world, still free from all other concerns.
All this water causes our very own earth to be known as the blue planet. Neptune too is blue thanks to methane clouds.
Blue is the sky that never ends, changing from light baby blue to the eventual midnight blue with the stars spread across like diamonds on velvet. I imagine myself flying through the blue, buoyed by gentle winds and sometimes buffeted by gales.
Blue is moods that are introspective and can be very very sad.
There are blue flowers that always bring a smile to my lips.
Bluebirds have flown over rainbows and the white cliffs of Dover.
I wear the blue sweater inherited when my sister died and I feel her presence, hear her voice as we complete crossword puzzles together.
Sapphires delight me, as does turquoise and Lapis lazuli. Blue brings a soul to jewellery, at times bestowing personality to the person wearing it.
My power suit is navy blue and there's nothing I can't accomplish when I wear it.
The blues, music that for generations has given voice to anguish, pain, and spirituality. And just as the colour has many and varied hues, so too does this music.
Oh, and we can't forget blue language. The perfectly timed descriptive epithet can dissipate a goodly amount of pent up anger.
The Blue Beetle was one of my favourite comic book characters, even though he was not so well known as the Man of Steel in the blue leotard.
My son adored his little blue teddy bear and would not go to sleep unless it was securely tucked under the covers with him.
Blue ribbons engender pride as does blue blood although the latter can be tinged with arrogance.
Blue movies...well...um...you know.
St Patrick was originally associated with the colour blue, and blue in flags can arouse extreme patriotism, even bravery.
How many of us have threatened to hold our breath until our faces turn blue? And I swear I've been so cold that my lips were blue.
No value can be placed on a friend who is true blue.
There are blue screens for imaging; these are good and useful tools. There is a blue screen of death; this one's not so good.
A primary colour, a motivator, a symbol, with enough variations to please all tastes. Whether in nature or human-made, it's just something I like to look at. There's no wonder that I'm crazy about it.
