She was just a girl in search
Of something pure and real
A lover for a lifetime
Not one she must conceal

So happy she had felt
To know love blessed her aching heart
But love was not enough
So they would always be apart

It's just as well she told herself
Even though she knew she lied
She was meant for other things
Her sorrow she would hide

So many lives were worse than hers
Of this there was no doubt
Helping those who couldn't
Was what her life was all about

She didn't need that love you see
True love was but a want
Once more she was hiding
This time memories that could haunt

Secrets......shadows........my steries
A life lived in the dark
Solitude the only partner
That truly left his mark
