The world has changed. Where once the United states was the super power leading the industrial revolution is now being overshadowed by third party countries vying for a piece of the economic pie. Long has it been since the golden age of job security in America to be replaced by employment power struggles over who is the fittest and smartest to continue a legacy that is quickly becoming a myth. All is not lost, however, for on today's financially viable platform there is a new industry that is taking the market by storm. Well, I should rephrase that last part. When I say "new", I mean to say the future of American profitability.
This particular market was actually born in the early 80's with the birth of Atari's game consoles. Since then, gaming companies such as, Nintendo, Intellivision, Colecovision and yes, arguably one of the first "PC" gaming platforms, Apple played key roles in helping the industry evolve. Changing forms along the way into what I lovingly refer to as the Performance Interfacing Multi Platform Systems or P.I.M.P.S. for short. Okay maybe I shouldn't be using that acronym, but for an industry that grosses over 10 billion dollars a year, that acronym fits just about every aspect of it, making it the 3rd largest in the entertainment genre. And if you look around, P.I.M.P.S. is a rather fitting acronym as there is at least one game console in at least 75% of house holds in America today, not to mention a PC or laptop.
With emerging new technologies that number is increasing, making the internet the undisputed platform for people to interact with each other, if only to view others through the crosshairs of some of the more popular first person shooter games like, Call of Duty 4, Haze, Halo 3, to name a few. New games are emerging at an alarming rate and major universities are adding Game Designing as a major to their list of degrees you can get a bachelor in.
At one point only a handful of game companies' occupied small corner of malls. Today, they are sprawling to practically every street corner. The P.I.M.P.S. is out in full force and what do we get out of it? Let's just say we get entertainment, interacting with different people from all over the world, falling in love, creating your own stories, causing Armageddon and saving the planet all from the seat and comfort of your own home. Which, I might say is ideal for agoraphobics. However, there are those who would like to take the gaming out of the home and onto the streets and as it is cropping
