Poetry: On poems

by Kristal Mcvicar

A POEM IS WHAT I'VE GOT......

The words do flow and as I write

I try to slow them down

Sometimes so fast and furious

I miss a verb or noun

Their inspiration flashes

Catching me off guard

I don't know when or how or if

They'll flow out soft or hard

They seem to write themselves for me

First dancing through my mind

I jump to find a pen and pad

They don't wish to be confined

They want to flow out of my thoughts

To find a home outside

The place of their conception

My hands are just the guide

They have a story they must tell

Or a message to deliver

Some make you laugh or cry

Some make you think or quiver

They find their rhythm naturally

Some rhyme and some do not

But once they hit the paper

A poem is what I've got
