Preventing and treating colic in babies

If your infant has a regular fussy period each day and, you can't seem to comfort your baby particularly between the hours 6:00pm and, midnight during your tired hours then your infant might have colic. The length of this fussing usually peaks at about three hours a day by six weeks and, then declines to one or, two hours a day by three to four months as long as the baby calms within a few hours and is relatively peaceful the rest of the day, there's no reason for alarm. If crying does not stop but, becomes worse and, persists throughout the day or, enlarged may be colic. According to pediatrics about one-fifth of all babies develop colic, usually between the second and fourth weeks. They cry inconsolably, often screaming, extending or, pulling up their legs, and passing gas. Their stomachs may be decrease and, distended with gas. Crying spells can occur around the clock, become worse in the evening. There's no definite explanation for why this happens but, colic means simply that the child is unusually sensitive to stimulation as, the child gets older it will decreaseand usually stops around three months. If breastfeeding colic is a sign of sensitivity to a food in mother's diet and in formula bottle feeding it could be due to milk protein. Colicky behavior also may signal a medical problem, such as hernia, or some other type of illness so it's always best to consult with your pediatrician. If your nursing, eliminate milk products, caffeine, onions, cabbage, and any reassure irritating foods from your diet. If bottle feeding try hypoallergenic formula. If food sensitivity is causing the discomfort, the colic should decrease within a day or, two of these changes. Walking or body motion will reasure the baby you also may try rocking, introducing a pacifier, lay baby across your legs face down, swaddle baby in babies blanket, and keep baby away from being around smoke. Steady rhythmic motion and, sound may help to fall fast asleep and remember even though it is difficult to deal with try to have someone help with the shifts and, keep your patience it doesn't last forever it will soon get better for your child and, your sleeping routines.
