Great children's books about real life situations

by Just Me Here

Created on: May 28, 2008

Children face real life situations of course on a daily basis. With so many fantasy, science fiction and just fun to read books out there, there should also be some that they can easily relate to. That is where books about real life situations come in. Everyone wants to be understood and having books with real life situations can help a child feel understood and give them the courage to go through life.

With so many different situations to face in childhood there are plenty of great books children can read. Simply going to a library and looking around or even online you can find some great reads. Here are some of my top favorite books that can help a child handle real life situations, and let them know they are not alone.

The first author that comes to mind is Danielle Steel. She offers many great books that deal with real life situations. Here are a few of her fantastic books to help children relate easily to situations.

MAX'S NEW BABY
MARTHA'S NEW SCHOOL
MAX AND THE BABY-SITTER
MAX'S DADDY GOES TO THE HOSPITAL
MARTHA'S NEW DADDY
MARTHA'S NEW PUPPY
MARTHA'S BEST FRIEND
MAX RUNS AWAY
FREDDIE'S FIRST NIGHT AWAY
FREDDIE'S ACCIDENT
FREDDIE'S TRIP
FREDDIE AND THE DOCTOR

We all know Danielle Steel for her great adult books, but she is also a children's author who writes wonderful books which not only entertain children well, but help them face dilemmas they may be facing. I highly recommend her children's books as well as her adult books, she is truly a great author.

ANY POSSIBLE OUTCOME: A BOOK OF URBAN TALES - BY - K.C. TAYLOR

This book includes seven stories with all real life situations inner city kids face. With some great stories on real problems children face like gangs, drugs, bullying, dysfunctional families and more. This book is definelty for older children since it has a lot of slang words and talks about drugs and gangs and such. It is great read for children to show them the problems in the world and how they deal with them.

WENDY HAS WINGS - BY - JANET LEE CAREY

This is a touching story that deals with a young boy and how he handles the death of his younger sister. He was also involved in the accident that took his little sister and now he remembers the experience as it was a near-death experience for him. He can remember his sister flying over him and his journey into the light before he came back to life.

It is a bit fictional but a touching story of how a young boy deals with the death of sister. The story brought me to tears and I think teenagers will enjoy this
