Why we care so much about celebrities

1. We want to be rich

Everyone wants to be rich and it is no secret that celebrities rake in extraordinary amounts of money why, who knows? We ache to lead their money-fuelled lives and experience St. Tropez weekend holidays, luxury gifts, 5 million dollar Hollywood mansions, and beautiful boyfriends/girlfriends. Many of us life vicariously (me-included!) through them when we read the gossip mags and see their excessive lives.

2. We want to look like them

Who wouldn't want a make-up artist, hairdresser, foot scrubber, chef, etc, etc, following you around wherever you went? Celebrities look fantastic thanks to the aforementioned posse. As stated in reason number one, celebrities earn a substantial amount of money and use a lot of it to make themselves look good. Lets face it who wants to be photographed looking like you just stepped off a 50 hour turbulent-ridden flight? Celebrities certainly do not. They dress in the latest fads; boho, street-smart, punk, etc and fashion labels; Gucci, Sass & Bide, the list goes on. As a result, we like to look at celebrities and mimic their fashion in order for us to feel fashionably up-to-date.

3. We want to date Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie

Who doesn't like to look at the beautiful physics of Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie hell I would date either! Let's be honest only the beautiful are celebrities. We like to fantasise about sleeping next to Brad Pitt or at least being able to talk to him. Celebrities are unattainable to us mere folk and as a result we like to fantasise about them it is in our psyche.

4. We want to feel normal (at the end of the day)

Who felt like crying for Jennifer Aniston when she broke up with the heavenly Brad Pitt? Who laughed when Tara Reid's boob fell out in front of scores of photographers? Who mourned over the death of Princess Diana when photographers chased her though the Parisian streets, which resulted, some say, in her death? Sure we want to have millions of dollars, wear the latest fashion labels and date the hottest starts, but at the end of the day we also like to feel normal. Sure celebrities have it good, but they also experience every-day problems like us but it is magnified 100-fold through the press.
