Moving out is an exciting and life-changing moment in every person's life. Yes, we love our mums cooking, the super low rent and the in-house cleaning service. But at some point in our lives, we can't wait to experience the freedom, the privacy and the sense of pride that comes with the first big move-out. We can't wait to hear the words: Yes I do live in my own place'. But, there are elements to moving out which cannot be ignored. Follow these 3 essential rules and moving out will stay a memorable experience
1. The Good Old Glory Box'
Prior to moving out start collecting basic items, which you will need in your new residence. There is nothing worse then finding your dream place, paying the bond and then realise that you have no money left to buy the essential items that are needed to cook, clean, wash, etc. About six months prior to moving out hit every sale. Don't chuck out those annoying junk mail, rather look through them and circle any bargains that will make your moving out easier. Every weekend buy a bargain, such as a saucepan, a toaster, utensils, towels and so by the time you are ready to move out you will have most of your basic and essential items. And all for about half the price! With all that spare cash, you can go out and buy a cool TV, trendy lamp, etc to help personalise your new home.
Great Idea: Write down all the basic items you will need to buy in advance to moving out and break them into four categories: bathroom (eg. towels, bath mat) kitchen (eg. saucepan, toaster, utensils), bedroom (eg. lamp, night stand) and family room (eg. couch, chairs). Then follow this simple process: write down the average cost of each, add all the prices up, and then divide by how many weeks you have prior to moving out. The end amount will be a rough estimate of how much you should invest in buying basic items each week. If it is too much money each week, maybe you should think of prolonging your move-out or cut back on some items. Check out www.myshopping.com.au. This is a great site, which has all your moving out items at comparative prices.
2. Think of geographics
Sure it is nice to rent a house that it funky, has lots of room, and great facilities, but the geography of the house is essential. You have to make the right choice the first time. The last thing you want to do is rent a place that is 1-hour dive from your work (plus peak-hour traffic) and then regret ever moving out. And you do not want to go through the pain of having to break the lease
