There is nothing more precious than the love that is shared between a mother and child. It is this feeling of joy that mothers have and children return to them that make the capturing of this emotion so important in children's literature.
As a mother snuggles a little one under the covers and reads a book before kissing them good night, the child goes to sleep knowing that a mother's love is there forever.
There a several wonderful books about the relationship between mothers and children that makes exceptional reads at bedtime or anytime when a little reminder of love can be shared.
1)Mommy Carry Me Please by Jane Cabrera. This is a cute and easy reading picture book for children that shows how many mother's in the animal kingdom love, hug and carry their babies just like humans do.
2)The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, Ruth E. Harper and Nancy M. Leak. The Kissing Hand is about a child (a raccoon) who doesn't want to leave his mother to go to school. His mother gives him a kiss on the palm of his hand so he can takes her love with him wherever he goes. This is a delightful and important book that can really help when a child is first being sent off to daycare of school. I highly recommend this book for all families.
3)God Gave Us You by Lisa Tawn Bergren and Laura J. Bryant.. Reflecting how much parents want their children, this book illustrates how lucky moms are to have their precious little one and that they truly are a gift from God.
4)Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton. All Sandra Boynton books are great reads for children, but this is a special favorite. This book also makes a great Valentine's gift with it's themes of love and hearts, but it is an excellent"love song" anytime. It encourages moms to whisper I love and shout it from the roof tops as well as encouraging interaction with the child with hugs and kisses.
5)Just Me and My Mom and Just Shopping With Mom by Mercer Mayer. Mercer Mayer is a popular author with children no matter the topic, but these two wonderful books incorporate the joy of sharing time with mom. It makes us see that no matter how small the things that mom's do with kids matter.
6)I Love You as Much... by Laura Krauss Melmed and Henri Sorensen Capturing how much a mother loves a baby is what makes this book wonderful. Just looking at the cover a mom reflects on those few precious moments when a baby is laid in her arms. This is an excellent book for gifts for new moms.
7)Love You Forever by Robert N. Munsch, and Sheila McGraw. This is the classic book about a mother's love that should be on all home library shelves. It shows that love for a child is unending.
8)No, David! by David Shannon. This is a humorous look at how naughty a little boy can be in the course of a day and yet no mater how much trouble he gets into, he is still loved by his mom.
9)Someday by Alison McGhee and Peter H. Reynolds. This story begins with a mom counting toes and fingers and shows what it is like to watch a child grow up. The mom knows that someday this precious child will leave them and be off on her own. It is beautiful story showing a mother's love at all ages.
10)My Mama Had a Dancing Heart by Libba Moore Gray and Raul Colon. This is an outstanding book to share between mothers and daughters. It is a reflection of ballet dancer's and her mother dancing a welcome to every season. This is a book to treasure that shows all of the little joys children take from their moms and it is okay to dance in the dance sometimes.
Story books that make the love between mothers and children come to life are timeless and are treasured books in homes everywhere. Take the time to read books about mothers with kids. They will treasure the stories for a lifetime.
