Wine in a box: Pros and cons

Wine-in-a-box, sounds like Jack-in-the-box, and what a wonderful delight it is! I first discovered this incredible invention while living in the United Kingdom, and I have stuck with this way, of having wine on tap ever since.

When I moved back to the United States and found I could buy 5 liters of wine-in-a-box, I was excited to say the least. Now I know it must sound as if I keep the bar open 24/7, but it's not so. I do find it very handy to pull ye ole wine-in-a-box out about 8-ish, and along with a few ice cubes in a huge plastic wine goblet, and enjoy the evening.

I have two daughters and when they came for a visit a while back, my oldest gave me the business about my extra large plastic wine glass, but quickly asked for her own, which I promptly gave her. I found the two glasses on sale, at Wally World for about a buck. Hey I do love a blue light special, especially when it's plastic!

Another nice thing about wine-in-a-box is it's all disposable and easy to trash. Glass bottles should be recycled, or handled gently or they could become hazards.

When my wine-in-a-box is nearly empty, I pull the plastic bag out and cut one of the corners, with a pair of scissors. I fill my plastic wine glass up and throw the box away. I also like those little faucets, they make me smile. Some folks have to push and tug to get the vino out, but those twist tops are the easiest.

I know wine-in-a-bottle is probably a better quality, but who needs fancy labels and colored glass, not me? I received some Electric Reindeer for Christmas, red and white, and when I tried to open it, I didn't have a proper opener, but I knew with a bit of imagination, I could solve the problem.

I found a large screw and twisted it into the cork, and then with my handy, dandy pliers I wiggled that cork right out. In my humble opinion wine-in-a-box wins by a mile over wine-in-a-corked-bottle, and as Lucy would have said, "It's so tasty too"!

Next time you run out of wine, check out wine-in-a-box, you can get all sorts of flavors, and if you check out fast enough none of your friends or family will know. You will be surprised how unconcerned you will be, after you have some wine out of a plastic glass, and few ice cubes.

If by chance you find that you really don't like the taste or the appearance of wine-in-a-box, then you probably haven't had enough to drink or you drank wine-in-a-box, with the wrong people. It's eight o'clock somewhere!
