Religion can be a rewarding and fulfilling activity. It can bring joy into your life that otherwise would not be there. For some people, however, this can be completely ruined when someone from a different religion tries to convince them they are wrong in their beliefs.
Pushing your religion on someone is usually a disaster. Most of the time, other people do not want to hear that your religion is better than theirs. And at times, it can be insulting to the person you are talking with.
Christianity is a religion that promotes evangelism. Members of this religion are encouraged to try and recruit other members and convert them. When people are unsure of their beliefs, this can potentially be a good thing. Learning about a religion could help a person make a choice and begin to participate in a specific religion. However, when people are confident and happy with their choice of religion, this can be annoying and possibly insulting.
Most people do not appreciate when members of another church come to their house and try to convince them that their particular flavor of Christianity is the only truthful one. Most times, this does not convince anyone to join their church. All this does is annoy the person who has been taken away from whatever they were doing at the time.
Most other religions do not recruit members. They get members who see how happy and content people of that religion are with their lives. They do not need to pester people as Christians do. And surprisingly enough, Pagan religions such as Wicca are growing at an astounding rate. This could be because they offer much more personal freedom than does Christianity. These religions are actually in partial hiding and do not share information unless the member feels comfortable sharing with others.
A much better way to get people to want to be a part of your religion is to set a good example. When others see what a good person you are and how happy and content you are in your life, this is a much better enticement than to tell people they are wrong. Which group would you rather be a part of? One that forces you to go and knock on people's doors that are hostile? Or a group that does not recruit at all and just does what is considered right and makes them happy? To me is seems like a very easy choice.
If a person asks about your religion it is more than ok to tell them about it. But, to try and make others feel that they are wrong if they do not want to be a member of your church is rude and insulting. People should be allowed to hear all sides and make a choice. Unfortunately, that is not the way Christians work. But, then, they were brainwashed to believe their religion and their book is the only truth in the universe.
