Reviews of Windows Vista

Windows' own anti-spyware tool. And with the addition of windows Live Onecare as a viable virus scanner alternative, you really feel well covered in teh security department. Updates are done in the background and feel seemless.

Thankfully under the 32 Bit editions, most third party applications run without a hitch, and microsoft applications such as Office etc not only run without a hitch, but can be incorporated into windows update to automatically grab the latest patches etc, a truly timesaving feature.

If you do have issues with some programs, these can usually be overcome by running them in XP SP2 compatibility mode, easily accessed by right clicking the program file.

Another important feature of any windows system is connectivity, and windows Vista does not dissapoint, the new network and sharing centre allows you to connect and organise wired and wireless connections easily, and I have had no issues connecting to both Windows XP and Linux computers with no extra settings required. Also this version of Windows can be connected to next gen devices such as the Xbox 360 with ease.

Finally, performance wise, this edition of windows is really competent at running all basic windows functions quite efficiently, but some third party programs require a bit of tweaking, or a bunch more RAM! thankfully, this windows offers some performance gains by allowing you to use removable storage, such as USB drives to increase paging performance. A cheap boost!

Overall, with some tweaking, and disabling some unneccesary services (heaps of guides online) this version of windows is stable and looks great to boot! I think the final revision will address the minor issues, and be a great update for current users of XP.
