Reflections: Music

Music is that form of art which breaks all barriers of cast and creed and gives solace to every human being. Musicians are not only revered for their mastery, but also for the limitless passion they represent. It seems that without good music, life can be as pale as paper. Human beings discovered many commercially viable commodities, but the most aesthetically viable thing ever discovered is music.

The importance of music in life can be gauged from the fact that more and more students all over the world are enrolled in music classes every week. The practice of melody has become a part and parcel of life for many, and it is used for various purposes, from healing to meditation. The touch of melody is important in our lives because the sound pollution and has increased in recent years. Amid the abundance of sound, the finery of a maestro's is seldom heard and we do not want to miss such an opportunity.

Music composers often become cultural icons of a country because no other field has such a fan following. Take the Beatles, Yehudi Menuhin, Andrew Lloyd Webber or Yubin Mehta their cultural impact of surpasses the regular domain of art and culture. Like the Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore wrote- "When I see the world through the songs, I know it at once.", so the impact is close to peoples' hearts. Great musicians come once or twice in a century and when they come, they transform the perception of a whole country.

Music teachers need a certain amount of purity of soul to teach successfully. Their works are different from regular school or college teachers, in the sense that they deal with the innermost emotions and qualitative reverberations .A righteous life and full devotion to their art are required. When violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler was asked by a fan how he could play so well, he said "If I do not practice a month, the audience knows the difference, if I do not practice for a week, my wife knows the difference, and if I do not practice for a day, I know the difference."

The source of melody for musicians can be various kinds of natural sounds. Every phase in the nature and can represent melody to them and this gives them inspiration to compose. Assimilation of the finest emotions gives birth to music in life. The evolution of a musical genius calls for minute listening power and the anesthetical abilities. Technicality at last gives way to talent and practice. The origins of different instruments and the development of different genres have many stories to tell. This only gives us a hint of the marvel of human mind and creativity. Listening to music can reduce all sorts of stress related problems and the best musicians are blessed in the sense that they dwell in the world of eternal harmony.
