Mr. Harper;
Before I begin, I would like you to know that a copy of this letter has also been sent to my local representatives of the NDP, Liberal and Conservative parties, along with the local newspapers. Also, you should know that I have sent a copy to Mr. Layton and Mr. Dion.
With that out of the way, I would like to say that while I don't speak formally on behalf of the entire young adult populous, I do feel that I speak for a great majority of young people across Ontario.
We, as a people, have stood by as you have done nothing to protect the general public from being pillaged for our hard earned money by the oil companies of the world. Your government has done virtually nothing to curb Big Oil from raising prices far outside the reasonable price range of the average citizen. The majority of citizens do not live in a tax bracket that allows them to be carefree with their money. Because your government has refused to do anything to help keep gas prices low, or at least reasonable, and has refused to help the citizens of the country which you are in charge of, we have lost all faith in the Conservative Government which has been elected.
Since you have been elected, Ontario has become a "have-not' province, tuition costs have sky-rocketed and the price of gasoline has broken records almost on a weekly basis. The oil companies are showing record profits, yet the average citizen is struggling to make enough money to pay for the gas to get to work. You can tell me that the minimum wage has gone up and that will make everything better, however that would be false. All raising the minimum wage will do is cause inflation in an already bloated economy.
As an elected member of government, it is your responsibility to look out for the peoples' interest, not that of Big Oil and Big Business. Remember this as you read this letter: members of parliament are elected as public service members. If we wanted someone to drive our country and its economy into the ground, we would have joined the United States and spiraled with them. We thought we were getting change when we elected you and your policy. We were wrong. All we elected was a money hungry and selfish governing body.
The voting youth of today will not stand by and watch you take our country for granted. You can expect your next election to be far less successful among our demographic. I can only hope it is just as unsuccessful among the other demographics as well.
Thank you for your time,
