Ladies and Gentleman, the United States of America is at a very crucial juncture in its history. We are facing some very unique challenges, and while some could be considered inevitable, how our current leader has dealt with them has left millions of Americans very disappointed. We have thousands of illegal immigrants coming into this country every day, and while most are simply trying to make a few dollars for their families back home, some though, have more sinister plans, and are in this country unaccounted for. We have oil companies making billions while gas prices are skyrocketing everyday, and have gone up 400 percent in just seven years, unimaginable just a few years ago. Health care isn't always available for people who work, which is just absurd, unless you happen to be an illegal immigrant, then you get healthcare for free. We have a war to "establish democracy" in Iraq, when we could have done a lot better going to a place like Myanmar where the opposition would actually appreciate our help. These are tough times folks, times we haven't seen in quite some time.
So I have a question for you: Do you smell what Barack is cookin'?
A historic candidate in a historic election. He happens to be the first black nominee for president, and better yet, he also has some plans to get us out of the mess. First, he understands that to make the world a better place, you have to talk to everybody, not just your allies. I think opening the doors of democracy to Cuba would be a boon to us, not a burden, and a better Cuba cuts down on at least one source of illegal immigration. I have a good feeling that the people of Iran and North Korea would rather we not hate them, and would probably be willing to meet us halfway if we stop treating them as the axis of evil, besides as North Korea showed during recent nuclear tests, they don't seem to have a lot to work with. He also wants to pull the troops out of Iraq. I say do it, and then we can use our armed forces to rebuild New Orleans before we worry about rebuilding Baghdad.
I like the fact that Barack seems to be a very level headed person, he doesn't go with the popular trend as shown in the fact that he didn't vote for the war in Iraq nor did he take the bait with the gas tax holiday proposed by John McCain. I liked the article in Time about how when he was defeated handily in Illinois senate elections, he reached out to those with experience for advice, changed his approach and became someone who could truly represent a broad range of people. He also realizes serving your country means more than just joining the army, that helping people at home is just as important as helping people in other countries. He is aware of our standing in the world and wishes to truly change it, and after eight long years of the Republicans lets vote for change. Please?
