The Founding Fathers set aside this nation from the tyranny of England in 1776 for a purpose. Down the road, this purpose was destined for greatness, and if the Founding Fathers were to turn in their grave to take a look at what this purpose has become today, they may as well die a second time.
The debate on whether or not Open Government issues should intend this nation for greatness that the Founding Fathers set it aside for has become more media prone recently as more and more political reporters have begun covering it. The idea of discussing Open Government issues has allowed the best politicians to become the politicians that they are today; personable, capable of handling issues, and showing the citizens of the United States that they have everything under control. With someone of these character traits in office, you cannot decline as a country.
I am a strict believer in candidates discussing Open Government issues with their peers, yet not many of the candidates over the last couple elections have been able to communicate well with the public in a manner that shows they are ready to accept the responsibility of being this great nation's president. Ronald Reagan was a perfect example of a great leader and a great communicator, allowing this nation to excel under his years in office.
In our 2008 Presidential Election, however, the candidates that are left have not touched many of the Open Government issues because they are too volatile. The problem with these issues is that the media twists and turns the candidates into monsters for their opinions and beliefs of how these issues should be handled. Watching their own skin, the candidates left need to watch what they say about these issues in order to hold their possibility for presidency. In my opinion, I would much rather see the discussion of these Open Government issues at a political gathering or political debate rather than the pep rally setting with unnecessary insults towards other candidates I've been seeing throughout this year's campaigns.
I have one message for the candidates of the 2008 Presidential Election: Focus on yourself, and, just like this nation, you will be destined for greatness; for concentration on yourself allows you to keep your focus on what you want the most. For these candidates, their concentration should lie in the shot at becoming a Top Ten president that leaves a lasting impression on the United States of America.
