2007-08 Fantasy football draft rankings: Running backs

What makes a good fantasy running back? Honestly it really depends on your league. Does your league reward PPR or does it give a point per carry. All of these rules have an affect on your draft day moves. These are my top ten running backs of 08.

1.) LaDainian Tomlinson- Still the number one back in Fantasy football and arguably the number one back in the NFL. The San Diego Chargers play teams that have a week run defense and this could be another MVP year for the aging Tomlinson.

2.) Brian Westbrook- Maybe the most versatile player in the NFL. Guaranteed five catches a game (those who play in PPR leagues) and will get 20-28 touches a game by ground or air. Name the top receiver on the eagles and well his last name kind of looks like their top running back.
3.) Adrian Peterson- Kid is an absolute monster. However, he is still going to split carries with Taylor and will probably only give you twelve games because of his aggressive injury prone running. The potential is there but that sophomore slump curse always lingers.
4.) Steven Jackson- Could be the come back player of the year. If the offensive line is intact and Bulger is healthy, Jackson could be the highest scoring Fantasy player this year. His health is an issue but what player in the NFL isn't going to get hurt. Another interesting fact is that Jackson usually gets twenty plus touches a game, every game.
5.) Larry Johnson- Another come back player here. Lets not forget his monster numbers before his down year. He can do some serious damage; especially if newly acquired Guard/Tackle Branden Albert turns into a run blocking machines he is expected to be.
6.) Joseph Addai- A very interesting prospect. Has the talent to go yard every time he gets the ball but he plays on a pretty pass happy team. He has also shown that he struggles being the sole back on the team. The addition of Rhodes could be affect Addai numbers.
7.) Clinton Portis- A very good back with excellent speed. If he can stay healthy he will be a monster in that new offensive scheme. Make sure you sit on Portis if he is slow because no other backs put up the numbers he does in November.
8.) Frank Gore- He is ranked a little low compared to some other ranking but he is to big of a risk to be a top ten guy. Mike Martz did well with Marshall Faulk and even a little with Kevin Jones but Jones only played like four games. Where was the rushing attack in the other games? Martz is way to pass happy and that could hurt Gores stock.
9.) Marshawn Lynch- A break out season is expected out of this former Cal running back. He will be better than ever and expect him to catch the ball out of the backfield more than last year.
10.) Jamal Lewis- Did really well for his new team and seemed to get stronger as the season went on. However, being the bruiser that he is you just never know when he is going to run out of gas.
