It is well known that conditions on board many of His Supremacy's Naval Warships are
not pleasant, but truly, conditions have become nearly inhuman as beatings, bad food,
impressment, and harsh treatment have become common on board many Imperial
Navy Warships. I.N.S. "Belligerent" was not one of those ships until the arrival of 1st
Lieutenant Efram Dagerek to replace the fallen Executive Officer, his reputation
as a strict disciplinarian was proved true. His enforcement of discipline was harsh
indeed, as he had men beaten for the slightest infraction and frequently called the
entire ship in assembly to watch punishment. Lt. Dagerek began pushing the
Senior Midshipman- Ensign Merkas Kormin, to drive the crew harder, especially the
midshipmen. In private, Lt. Dagerek promised to show favor to Ensign Kormin
if he would persecute the midshipman, Cadet Jervic Danis Zelford, knowing it was
the Captain's nephew. The Captain could not complain about his nephew's
persecution or it would appear he was showing favoritism.
Punishments began happening so often that the Captain spoke to Lt. Dagerek,
telling him to ease up on the crew, as they were good men and mostly veterans.
Lt. Dagerek apparently took this as a sign of weakness and afterwards
thought of him as a "soft" Captain.
