When my elderly cat Sassy slipped out of the house and disappeared I was devastated, and more than that, terrified. She was an old cat and mostly deaf, and all I could think was that if she ran out into the road, someone would hit her, because she wouldn't even hear the car coming towards her.
I was completely beside myself when I called my husband to tell him that our little Sassy was missing. He told me to calm down, and to make sure that I had looked all through the house, under the beds, and in the closets. He believed she was still in the house. After ensuring I had checked everywhere, and that she really had disappeared, I was almost frantic. Sassy was a part of the family, an elderly member who had more than earned her place in the family through years of her love, her purring, her sitting in our laps.
I went onto my computer where I had tons of photos, including photos of her. If you haven't done it yet, you should have some good current pictures of your cat somewhere safe. I thank my lucky stars we did, and I quickly wrote up a poster. It was on bright orange paper, with a purple middle, and surrounded by the purple edge was a good current photo of Sassy. On the top of the paper in very large bold black letters it said, REWARD.
I think the colors really caught people's attention, and the REWARD made even people who weren't cat lovers like we are, take a second look. Under Sassy's photo, I put, ELDERLY FEMALE, SPAED CAT NAMED SASSY. Underneath in smaller, but still bold and black letters I put, MISSING FROM SAND CANYON ROAD, CHEWELAH ON MAY 10TH. SHE IS A HOUSE CAT AND CANNOT SURVIVE OUTSIDE. REWARD FOR HER SAFE RETURN. PLEASE CALL, and I left my home phone number, my husband's cell phone number, and our names. Underneath that I put, SHE IS VERY LOVED, AND MISSED. CHILDREN ARE VERY WORRIED, AND SO ARE WE. IF WE DO NOT ANSWER, PLEASE LEAVE A VOICEMAIL. WILL REIMBURSE FOR ANY VET BILLS IF SHE IS HURT. NOTE - Cat is mostly deaf and will not come when called. Had on a pink collar with a heart tag when she disappeared, however she may have gotten it off.
Than I called pet finders where Sassy was registered. It is free to register with them and they will help you to find your pet should he or she ever become lost. You should do this before your pet goes missing. They have a large network of places they can call to see if anyone found a pet matching your pet's description.
Two days later, I recieved a phone call from a guy who lived about three blocks away. He
